HOOKED: An Exploration of Addiction
March 6th through March 31st

Pictured: Gui Fu Shen by David Alee
HOOKED examines how our particular dopamine boosters take hold—when a hobby becomes an obsession, when a coping mechanism becomes a trap, when something that once soothed or excited us begins to quietly drain our attention, time, energy, money, or sense of self.
GREEN
April 3rd through April 30th
Now Accepting Submissions!

Pictured: Georgia O'Keeffe, Blue and Green Music, oil on canvas. Public Domain.
We’re open to interpretation and to medium. Painting, photography, sculpture, mixed media, installation. Landscapes are welcome, but we’re looking for work with a contemporary point of view. Shift the perspective. Push the composition. Give us green that feels current, layered, and alive.
Think emerald opulence. Olive restraint. Neon insistence. Chartreuse edge. Fresh shoots. Overgrowth. Artificial surfaces. Green as currency. Green as transformation.
Let the color lead. It can dominate the surface or quietly anchor the piece. We’re interested in work that feels intentional and fully realized, not decorative.
New or existing work is eligible.

True Crime
May 1st through May 31st

Pictured: Paul Cezanne, The Murder, oil on canvas. Public Domain.
For our May exhibition, Magpie invites artists to explore True Crime in its broadest sense: the many ways humans cross the line—against each other, against communities, and against the world around us.
Artists might investigate themes such as:
• Stories of guilt and justice
• Mystery and the unknown
• The darker corners of human nature
• Secrets, betrayal, and broken trust
• Corruption, abuse of power, and systemic harm
• Environmental destruction and crimes against the natural world
• Personal, social, or historical wrongdoing
• The complicated lines between innocence and responsibility
Work might resemble evidence, testimony, witness, confession, or reconstruction. It might question who decides what counts as a crime—and who gets away with it.
All media and interpretations are welcome. As always at Magpie, we encourage provocative, surprising, and thoughtful responses.
Follow the clues. Bring the evidence. Tell the story.
Media: All visual media considered (2D, 3D, fiber, assemblage, mixed media, photography, small installations). All work meant for hanging must have a wire installed.
